Fast Ending Licks |
Lead | |
|
Is there a proper name for those little fast ending licks that Hendrix and Mayer do a lot? The ones that are like fast little blurs at the end of a run. Just
trying to figure out what they are called. Thanks.

There isn't really a name. But I see what you're talking about.

i have always thought of them in terms of drum fills and rolls. Rolling the solo back in and giving some closure

i guess it's a riff orgasm. ask John and maybe he'll politely reply and/or agree edit: wow i've watched derek trucks play so many times. still kind
of struck by how he approaches his notes.

I recall someone talking about it on here before and referring to it as like a "fall" or "drift" or something like that.

I, too, know what you're talking about, but don't think there is a name for them. But, this is something that's also very common in Clapton's
playing. So, I immediately thought of an Old Love video which has a couple of good examples around 2:10 and also from 3:22 - 3:30.

It involves a bit of sweeping. Sort of like a mini sweep I guess in combination with hammers and pull offs.

yea you're right, it's a sweep thing.
just gotta practice it really quickly. just think of the bb king uppicking sweep, but then making each note more resonant. if you guys have the patience, we can make a website like http://12bar.de/ . so detailed haha. |

I think opening riff of Everyday I Have the Blues, has what you're referring to, you'll know the part when you hear it, its at the intro. Yeah it is
sweep

Mmm yeah I know what you're talking about, but I don't think there really is a technical name for that sort of thing. Here's another example of
what (I think) you're talking about, haha:
(The end of the lick at about :33) It's really just a series of hammer-ons and pull offs in most cases, but I'm sure you can vary playing it however you like.. |
