Smaller Venues? |
Lead | |

Do you think john will ever play smaller venues? I hope he does because when i saw the trio at the house of blues chicago and the rave in milwaukee it was
amazing. Smaller shows def have a greater impact on people i beleive and it's way more personal. What do you guys think?

To be honest, I have NO idea how popular he really is. What's the biggest venue he's ever sold out? He probably could play in smaller venues, but does
it pay off? He has to please the fans AND make a living too

I think John's been playing the amphitheater scene entirely since Heavier Things for the most part, with JM3 shows and private "test" shows being
the exceptions--probably because the JM3 stuff is a little more sophisticated listening compared to John's studio albums and he didn't know how well it
would fly with his usual crowds, and obviously new music wouldn't be "new" if larger crowds had access.
I think if he were to commit to smaller venues, it would be in addition to the bigger ones. He's so popular that I bet he could make bank (and then some), but his touring schedule seems rigorous enough already that it might just be too much. I'd be all for it if he did, though ... especially since I have a connection with House of Blues to take advantage of.

What about when he tours the rest of the world? Actually, has he EVER toured the rest of the world? I know he's been to the Netherlands. I think. And that
was some kind of festival if I'm not mistaken. And I don't mean rest of the world like the UK and possibly France. Because that's NOT the whole
world.

No, I'm not mad yet either. But he should consider it.
Also , I really want most people here to stop thinking about him
as "Jennifer Aniston's ex-boyfriend, American singer". It's annoying to read in the papers and online.

Exactly.. Man... I hate reading those stupid gossip trash stupid idiotic people make... I mean the person has a name and the world knows it so why do you have
to refer to him by telling the story about how another person had something to do with him... I hate it. hate it.. or they're just really dumb and not
worth it.

I know, I mean I don't want to get all upset because of some stupid tabloid, but a lot of people read that shit, and they don't care how many Grammys
he's won or how good his songs are...
He should come here and clear that up for them

moleman23 wrote:Yeah, I was afraid writing "sophisticated" would sound pretentious, but that's not how I meant it. I just think that Mayer planned on the JM3 stuff not being as readily accepted by those fans of his that tend to linger close to Top 40 radio. I love both 'reincarnations' as he calls them, don't get me wrong. I just feel like the difference between the pop stuff and the trio (music-wise) is the difference between, "That's catchy," versus "That's SICK." Granted, when you see him live, he brings both. And it's awesome.

Granted, when you see him live, he brings both. And it's awesome. I like that about him. He once said something along the lines of that all of his songs were like his children and he's proud of each one. I don't think the pop stuff sounds that much different compared to the Trio because it's all John. I think Continuum is a nice way for Room for Squares fans to get into a new genre. Worked for me, anyway. Yeah, Nico, chances are slim he'll do such an extensive tour but
someone should tell him it would be well worth it. Like al77 said, if he sold out in the Netherlands twice, however small or big the venues were, people
obviously want to see him.

i would have to think that he wouldnt play small venues unless it was a small project like the trio ( not to say the trio was small but on the lines of how big
his regular tours are, the trio was at a smaller scale.) just because i think when you do smaller venues, it throws away alot of possible ticket sales you
could of gotten with the bigger venues. idk im sure you've all heard what im saying a time or two before, but i think the big issue is MONEY. tours cost
alot, bus, gas, food, sound equipment, etc.. it all adds up and when u need the money most, the big venues are where u can get it. so all in all if you ever
see john in a small venue anymore, you can probably guarantee that your not gonna see 8 or 9 guys up there playing like usual. everything will be on a smaller
scale. im just rambling. sorry.
